Marie Crawford Miller & Respite Design
Respite Design is a design business focused on utilizing our creativity and skill to help others live fuller lives. It's that simple. We believe homes should be places of restoration and healing, where we can be supported through all the chaos life throws at us. They should be havens of respite from the world.
As part of creating these spaces, we often utilize UX research methods that allow us to uncover hidden client needs so they can be fully addressed. We incorporate sustainability into any project, to the degree that it's welcomed or desired, and can even provide education on customized ways for clients to maintain a healthier home. Additionally, we incorporate planning so the entire home can remain accessible throughout every stage of life.
We provide specifications, plans, elevations, quick on-site consultations, and project management for residential design and small commercial projects with homeowners, builders, and contractors. Every bit of what we do here is about improving people's lives by taking a true relational interest in every client and creating spaces that reflect who they are and how they want to live.

Services
We provide the full scope of interior design services, which can be packaged together or divided into discrete tasks as appropriate for each project. Let us know what you need and together, we'll develop a plan.
Relationship & Research
Every project starts with the client - designer relationship. Our first goal is to get to know you and what makes you excited about pursuing the design project at hand. We may utilize some UX research skills to make sure we're on the right track, or we may need to have a conversation. The process is about you, not us.
Conceptualization &
Project Management
We develop everything from napkin sketches to full sets of plans. Our job is to take what you've shared and turn it into a design that functions perfectly, expresses who you are, and empowers you to live your best life. You stay on-the-go in the ways that are most life-giving to you while leaving the details to us.
Sustainability
As the founder, Marie is LEED-AP certified, Biomimicry 3.8 certified, and Cradle-to-Cradle certified. She also earned an MFA in design for sustainability.
